The one chosen for 2023 has been defined as "an unconventional shade in unconventional times ". Vivid magenta is a strong and complementary color of green. It is obtained from the perfect combination of two equal parts of red and blue.

History of the Color Magenta

The birth of this incredible color, symbol of non-conformity, dates back to 1859. It is said that François-Emmanuel Verguin , a chemist from Lyon who was about to create new artificial dyes for the textile industry, decided one evening to throw all the used compounds out of  the window before going to sleep.
The following morning he realized that the remains left in the bowl had given life to a new colour: magenta.

The name, however, took inspiration from the fashion of the time. The battles fought at the time, that of Magenta and that of Solferino, had gained so much fame that in any sector they wanted to use
that name to attract public attention.

What Makes Magenta So Special?

Magenta has a very particular characteristic, namely, it is only an illusion created by our eyes .
But what does this mean? That magenta doesn't exist?
This colour, which on the color scale is located between red and blue, is not found in the visible spectrum of light and therefore there is no luminous wavelength that belongs and corresponds to magenta. The receptors in our eyes are actually only able to distinguish between red, blue and green. The ability to be able to see the magenta hue depends on the phenomenon according to which by combining the three primary colors we can afford to create secondary ones, which our brain perceives even if they don't really exist.
